Pharos is designed, built and run by Yannis Mavroudis — a naval commander turned programme and AI-delivery leader.
Twenty years of naval command teaches you one thing above everything else: complex systems don't fail because of bad people. They fail because nobody was watching the whole picture while everyone else was reasonably managing their own piece of it.
That observation has followed me from a warship's bridge to AI-platform delivery, and it keeps proving itself right. The sectors change; the pattern doesn't. Pharos is my answer to it for shipping — one place that watches the whole picture for a fleet, every day.
Background and qualifications
I'm a programme-management and AI-delivery leader with a background spanning defence, technology and maritime operations. I hold a PMP and an MSc in Information Systems, and I have delivered AI and agentic systems end-to-end, from discovery through go-live.
Before technology, I spent twenty years in the Hellenic Navy — as a weapons-engineering officer responsible for combat-management systems, radars, sensors and data links, and as Commanding Officer of a patrol vessel with a 45-member crew, operating within NATO and EU frameworks. I hold a degree in Electrical, Electronics & Communications Engineering from the Hellenic Naval Academy, and I held national and NATO security clearances for over two decades.
Today I also work operator-side in maritime security and compliance — ISM, ISPS and MLC — within a major Greek ship-management group, the same environment Pharos is built to serve.
Why this matters for Pharos
What that brings to Pharos is the operational authority of someone who has commanded people in high-stakes environments, the engineering fluency to build and audit the platform myself, and first-hand knowledge of maritime security, safety and compliance. Pharos itself — roughly 45,000 lines of code — I architected, built and audited independently, orchestrating multiple AI models into one operational picture.
I am also a volunteer on the Events Team at the PMI Greece Chapter.
